Ended up going to PGA superstore today and tested out quite a few. Ended up getting a TaylorMade Sim Max D used!
Now go play Timacuan. After you’re done there, take a trip to the Ritz and then Reunion. Also, worth the drive to Deer Island!
He may be right, but the best way to find out is to determine your club speed before choosing a flex.
I would either:
A) go to the PGA store and ask more questions with one of the staff members there
B) bring along a friend who is knowledgeable in golf (if applicable :) ) to make sure you aren’t steered the wrong way.
Happy to answer any questions if you have some!
Thanks! I’ve been eyeing the Callaway Rouge or Mavrik, or TaylorMade Sim Max (2020 version) but I guess it’s all in the feel. I’ll make the trip out to PGA
I recommend buying a used driver on Callaway pre-owned. Mavrik, Epic Flash, and Rogue are all superb drivers and a like-new one would be half the price of a new driver (or even cheaper if there’s a sale). You could go to a shop that has a simulator so you can try different clubs and see which flex feels better, but honestly shaft flex doesn’t make as big of a difference as you think. No golf club will dramatically improve your swing and performance, the best way to see significant improvements is through practice and lessons with a trustworthy coach. https://youtu.be/V8VbtElCnD0
I just got rid of my women’s starter set driver. Huge difference. My swing speed was way too fast (90 mph) and swinging a regular flex made a huge difference in accuracy and distance. Highly recommend!
I ended up with regular flex and steel regular flex on my new irons. I was really shocked my swing speed was 90 mph. Without the fitting I would have just bought senior flex.
If there’s a Golf Galaxy or other store that specializes in golf, you’ll be better off there.
If you really like golf and you’re sure you’ll get good use out of it, Club Champion is the ultimate option for getting expert help picking out clubs. It’s just $$$
That’s what I figured, closest “golf” store is the PGA Tour Superstore but didn’t feel like driving that far but probably best option.
Where are you located?
I’m in Central FL. So thinking it will be a good investment since I can play almost year round.
I’d recommend driving to your nearest Country Club and talking to a pro there even if you aren’t a member. I’m sure they’d gladly help you out and who knows, maybe you’ll end up joining the club if you like gold enough. It’s a great sport and hope you enjoy it!
