It honestly depends on the person you are talking too. Different people feel like it unprofessional talking about their salary and others feel open to discuss how much they make. I think it’s important to speak amongst ourselves about pay so we can see if we are being underpaid or not.
Pro
I completely get that, it really does depend on the person. Some people are still uncomfortable with it, and that’s valid. But I agree with you, having those conversations (when people are open to it) can be so important. It helps create awareness and makes sure no one is being undervalued. Appreciate you sharing that perspective!
I've never heard one person talk about their pay here. I'm really curious to know what everyone else is making, but I'm also new here, so I don't feel comfortable bringing it up. I don't want to make anyone feel awkward or think I'm the weird nosey new guy, so I'm not planning on asking any time soon.
Pro
That’s completely fair, especially being new. It can definitely feel awkward to bring up at first. I appreciate you sharing that perspective. Honestly, comfort and timing matter a lot with conversations like this. Hopefully as you settle in, it becomes something that feels more natural and less “taboo” over time 😊
Pro
At my workplace, we don't usually discuss our pay since all of my colleagues joined at different time and our company gives us raise on the basis of tenure. We are at peace with this policy as well.
Pro
That makes a lot of sense. 😊 If the raise structure is clear and based on tenure, it probably removes a lot of uncertainty and comparison. Transparency in how pay is determined can definitely bring peace of mind. Appreciate you sharing how it works at your workplace!
