I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. Researching the job mkt & pay for nursing: It is so easy to set up a first interview esp. as a nurse. Set up a zoom meeting, in the zoom meeting ask abt job details and ask for the salary range. They will give it to you, and in my case it was the same range for both of the companies. (Hospice oncall nurse here👋). Then you fit in somewhere on that continuum based on education & experience—that where the negotiation comes in—they will make a case to place you as low as possible on the scale.

BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?
