I had an interview this week where everything felt easy. We laughed, the conversation flowed, and I walked out thinking, this is it. Then two days of silence hit and I started doubting everything I said. Why do I always trust the vibe more than the outcome?

Human nature. Everyone is prone to second-guessing after the fact. If things went as well as you say, you shouldn't be worried. Two days is nothing. Sit tight for a week, then follow up if you still haven't heard anything. I'm guessing you will.

You are right, two days is barely a breath in hiring timelines. I think I let the emotional high of a good conversation make the silence feel louder than it is. I need that reminder to zoom out.

A lot of times we believe what we want, and we really want to believe in a positive outcome. And, as we probably know more than most people, what happens in a meeting may not tell the whole story. All the world's a stage, of course. Still, if you think you did well and hit the points you wanted to, you should still be confident and expecting good news.

That is the hard part. I walk out replaying the connection and forget there are budgets, internal candidates, and politics behind the curtain. I am learning to separate a good conversation from a guaranteed outcome.

I am writing this message besides the staff group of EY GDS. Specifically Staff -1 at assurance level. I would request everyone to spare few minutes and read it -

Wanted to bring out that staff-1's are paid peanuts (3.33L CTC) please don't expect them to slog 12-13 hours. They don't have enough motivation or incentives to work that long. Seniors,AM's and Managers should be more kind and explain the work to them clearly rather than making last minute changes.

I want to be in private equity because I want to make a lot of money. I want to be in FAANG because I want to do interesting work but make only slightly more money than I’m making now.

I’m having a lot of trouble figuring out which to pursue.

$325k TC at MBB in a non-generalist (still partner track) path. Love the intellectual variety, smart colleagues, flexibility (WFH has let me take occasional 2-3h windows during the day for personal activities) - can’t take the stress anymore. Are WFH industry roles at the $300-500k TC level really that much less stressful?
