Find another job NOW. Far better to find a job while still employed so you’re not perceived as the problem.
Absolutely agreed. Unfortunately, not having a job is not ideal when job searching. Go figure.
If you do get fired, don’t fall into the trap of believing you’re not worthy of another job in this industry. Toxic companies make things personal and equate performance with potential, which can cause people to feel diminished self-worth when they’re let go from a job. Toxic companies also assume the worst about people who have been fired even before they know the facts. Good companies respect people who have a healthy perspective about adversity in their lives. Articulating what you learned from being fired demonstrates self-awareness and resilience, two qualities I’d want my employer to value. If you’re in the wrong place, focus on finding the right place before your current job wears you down to the point where it hurts your ability to tell your story confidently to prospective employers.
Definitely not impossible, but it does complicate things, especially in this job market. Put your all into job hunting ASAP and try to find something before you are let go.
Getting fired or laid off in accounting isn’t unique. So yes, it may take you some time because the market but you can absolutely get another job in accounting.
