Anyone who has recently resigned from ibm? When you initiare a separation process from workday, it goes to manager for approval. I asked HR and there is a due date mentioned on that process. Does that mean that if manager does not approve before the due date, my resignation is declined? What is the impact and what is meant by that due date? IBM

It's both. Some of the burnout is self-inflicted because that's what was modeled for older generations. Work hard, don't complain, be grateful you have a job, blah blah blah. But the pressure from society is real too. Mortgages, families, the cost of starting over at 45 vs 25. Older workers don't stay because they want to burn out. They stay because the financial risk of leaving gets higher every year.
That is a great perspective! I feel that in my bones - staying because the options are bleak for the older generations.
It comes down to you setting the boundaries for yourself. I’ve seen the recession, crashes, covid, and it’s definitely changed my perspective. I hope that each generation accomplishes something good for themselves. Seems not being taken advantage of by the company is what the young generation is doing. It’s a different time, and they recognize that.
I agree - each generation has their strengths and weaknesses. What works for one may not work for another. It's a good example of survival of the fittest.
You work for Liberty Mutual?
a lot of it also comes down to work ethic. the younger generations in general don't have as much. that's not true for all, but in general.
as for corporate, they simply don't care. you are nothing but a number to them and easily replaceable.
No, I work at Northwestern Mutual! You are correct in the work ethic and how it seems to be thinning out as generations begin to enter the real world of work. I also don't understand how the seat warmers can sleep at night just knowing how little value they have in the workers.
