I work in tech, but a generalist - have done sales, delivery operations etc. trying to get experience in as many areas as possible before I go on my own. I dnt know where to start the journey. Applied for a role internally and feedback from 1st round interview was positive. However, I was told there’s strong external competition who have more experience in the field and likely to get the job. Hiring manager told me to consider a different open role in the team where I’d be a much better fit. The other role isn’t exactly what I was hoping for but could be a foot in the door. Has anyone had similar experiences? I don’t know whether to abandon this completely or remain persistent. Thx!
