I had not used chat gpt for a long while until today. Last time I used it, it was creating fake case law. I used it today and it pulled solid case law (I checked on west law) and statutes on the subject matter I was asking about. Obviously it is not to be relied on, but I am surprised at how far it has come since I used it maybe 5 or so months ago. While the subject matter I was researching was somewhat simple, it still saved me an hour.

*I just realized the version I was using was someone’s paid version. But regardless, it was helpful! Maybe this is old news, but just in case anyone was like me and assumed it was still garbage.

It’s really lovely for summarizing documents, explaining general concepts (that you can then do a deeper dive on your own on) and giving you a starting point for emails and things like that. I also use it for math 😭😂

Regular chatgpt has a data lag of 6 months to one year and it does not have access to real case law found in West Law or LexisNexis. The ai in those prograns does have access to case law. I would never use chatgpt.
