Is this supposed to be the minimum wage equivalent to an unpaid internship? Because if any food service manager asked that of me, I'd immediately tell them to pay me for my time.
Some places an hour is fine but some other places just take the pee!

Oh no, you should be paid for your time!
I definitely agree
When it starts to feel ridiculous. Like 4-5 hours once, fine. But if they keep asking for more or want me to put in a full shift, I'm out unless they pay me for it. Which should really be the standard to begin with. It's not like they can't afford to pay you for it.
Yeah I agree. Definitely wouldn’t do a full day!
That seems to be more common these days, it's like employers know they can make people jump through hoops. If you really need the job, and you think it's worth doing, then you should go for it. If a potential employer is asking for a full day's work unpaid, that's really pushing it. In a case like that you should argue that working for a half shift will show them what they need to see.
For definite. Not sure a full day unpaid is worth it though!

It’s not so common anymore to do unpaid trial shifts. If it’s a short one, I’d say go for it. Anything more than 2 hrs unpaid is excessive. In any case, you should be paid for your time.
Yeah I agree I defo won’t do more than a few hours I don’t think!

Unpaid trial shifts should be short, supervised, and informational. Anything that feels like real labor is crossing the line. If it replaces paid work, walk.
That’s a good way of putting it across I think!
