In Dubai, where whatever you want around town and in the office. When at client sites in the UAE, wear suits like you would in the US. I personally feel comfortable wearing skirts (knee length or just above) but would avoid sleeveless tops with Emirati clients. In KSA, abayas are no longer *required* but I think you’ll still feel more comfortable wearing one. And under your abaya, wear whatever you want (i.e. leggings, tank, t-shirt, whatever)—the most comfortable you’ll ever be at work! ;) I’ll add that abaya fashion has gotten much more broad in the past few years: I used to wear a thick black abaya buttoned up to my neck with minimal decoration and now I can wear thin, open, tie-waist, v-neck, and colorful abayas. And many clients have made the same transition. P.s. if you’re wondering, no, you don’t have to cover your head. I’ve never worn hijab and never felt that I needed to.

Great, thank you so much for giving the full picture!
Depends on who you’re going to be working around. If it’s govt clients / mostly Arabs, I would stick to pants, long skirts - nothing too revealing
Abaya is optional as long as nothing catches the eye about what ur wearing

Good luck. Get a quick 101 on the region and then make sure you made the right choice. You are far far away from NYC..

I have family in the UAE, so I’m familiar with the culture and been there multiple times. People have told me that modest clothing is still the norm in KSA but not to the point to wear a scarf or abaya at all times…
It's more or less the same, especially if you're working in your company's own office. If you're at a public sector client and everyone is Emirati or Saudi or whatever then you should probably be more cognizant about not showing your arms / legs.
You don't need to wear an abaya anymore in Saudi but I would get one made for you (don't buy them off the rack) to have. The Western ladies I worked with in Saudi all got very used to just wearing sneakers and yoga pants to work every day and throwing on an abaya over it.
Any suggestions on where to get one made?
Abayas in KSA for sure at client site (if public sector)
