There’s really not much to say but to find another job. I reported to a manager that favors a colleague—it was obvious to most people who works with us. Because of that, I knew I wasn’t going to succeed so I left.
Yeah unfortunately no other move
Almost sounds like it's past time to start looking for a new role.
Agreed
Take the effort and energy you put into going above and beyond and put it into finding a job with a company that appreciates people for the value they add
The Reality: You aren't being rewarded for wearing two hats; You’re being used. You can’t just "drop a hat" and expect a thank you. Companies view you as a fixed cost. If you try to change the deal, they often try to change the person. In the eyes of management, you are a "bargain." If they promote you or pay you fairly, they lose their two-for-one discount. The people doing the "bare minimum" are actually smarter at the corporate game—they are protecting their time and making themselves "promotable" rather than "useful."
The Logic Gap: You think "above and beyond" leads to a raise. In reality, it just leads to more work. By solving two departments' problems, you have made yourself un-promotable. They can't move you up because then they would have to hire two expensive people to replace you.
The Solution: Instead of a "pay me or I quit" ultimatum, use the Market Reality Check. Tell them: "I'm currently performing two roles at a 50% discount compared to the market. I love the work, but this isn't a sustainable business model for me. We need to either adjust my compensation to reflect this dual-manager role, or we need to start a transition plan to hire a Procurement lead so I can focus on Accounting." I hope this helped.
