I KEEP having my boss say to me "that's how we've always done it" as an excuse to never look at another way of doing things.
There have been multiple times I have come up with new ideas which I KNOW will save time and the outcome be just as good, if not better, and I get shut down every time. Any tips on how to go about managing this?!

Find a job that values innovation and improvement, I guess. I've struggled with this as well, making process improvement requests to a manager who seemed dedicated to the status quo. Eventually I just gave up and moved to a workplace that valued my input.

Its such a shame though! The job market is so tricky right now though to find the right place. I don't like office based work so finding somewhere hybrid is quite hard, and to me it is more important for now

My last manager was like this, and it had me pulling my hair out.
A coworker told me they would bring up the problem first and see what the manager said, if they agreed it was an issue, that was the chance to throw out what they were thinking. It’s extremely frustrating having to overthink doing this, but that worked for us, sometimes at least.

It really is frustrating! That's a really good way to go about bringing it up though, I will try!

I would just do it and document the data. Like how much time you saved then present it to your boss. It's hard to argue with data. And instead of saying you're changing things up just say you're tweaking it that way your boss doesn't feel like you're saying they're wrong. If you still get push back then let it go. It's not worth your time and energy.

I would love do to that, but a part of me would also worry that I would get told off for doing it a different way without getting permission

I worked for a company that was acquired by a bigger and much more successful company. I remember at one of the meetings afterward one of the people who came over to essentially straighten things out said the only thing that would really get them angry would be if someone said "but that's the way we've always done it." That really stuck in my head, and I've always considered that like the worst thing you can say in any situation. Not sure how to manage around that except to point out a better way and hope for the best.

100%, I totally agree. Just because that's how you've always done it doesn't mean its the right / best way! Sometimes having routine isn't always a good thing.

Oh wow. Have you tried asking I understand that this is historically the way things are, what information would the group need to make any of these changes?

I suppose I haven't actually! I usually just go quiet when they say no! :D I will try this in future

I am a force to be reckoned with when people say that to me. I was hired for my fresh ideas, and I feel like I’m constantly reminding my manager about it.

How frustrating though that you do have to remind them! Good for you for sticking with it though
