That includes meetings your peer is invited to and never shows then claims no knowledge of, read record on all you send directly to them.

My boss told me to “assume positive intent” and says “titles don’t matter here.” But they do—she’s a director, I’m an IC, and he’s a VP (and quite frankly doesn’t know how to manage an IC he has as of late only had other VPs and Sr Directors report to him). That dynamic absolutely matters. It’s starting to affect how I show up at work. I’m a high performer (exceeding reviews, came from a company of star employees) and don’t want to leave, but for my mental health I may need to make an adjustment—especially since I don’t feel my boss is backing me up.
How do you handle a higher-level colleague like this without letting it drain your energy or undermine your confidence?
Yeah, unfortunately, she is not a peer. They are a director and I’m an individual contributor… but I’m doing everything stated in regards to immediately firing back to make them look like an idiot, but what I do need to do is document it all and what I’ve done to try to rectify the situation on my own. I am curious if anyone has ever been in a situation like what I am currently dealing with and also the added layer complexity of having the VP as my boss and I’m an IC. And even more so they’re ridiculousness that titles don’t matter it’s dismissive and it’s easy to say when you are an executive leader.
Update resume. Leave. Don’t waste energy on a lost cause. Put all that energy into securing a better future for yourself!
Understood! Didn’t say it was easy. Took me a few months to land my current role and a few years for the role before that. I just do it while working as soon as I know things are toxic and there’s no other choice but to move on. I have a high tolerance for toxic nonsense, realize it’s better to land a new role while working, plus I have family to support so I never want to be without work, no matter how painful it may be. Any paycheck is better than being out of work. You also have no leverage for negotiation when you’re unemployed vs working.
