I posted before that earlier this year, I got blocked from a promotion and now they’re asking me to interview for a higher-level role they already want me in. I want to make sure I’m negotiating fairly this time.

Since it’s internal move (under same boss, different role, do I come to this negotiation with market data or is it smarter to ask what they’re already budgeting for this higher-level role and start from there?

Do your research, and come with a well thought out value prop for yourself to help support an ask fkr more if their offer isn't sufficient.

Thanks. I hope they listen!!

I would definitely go into the negotiation with market data. You can ask what the range is but it isn't necessary. Confidently ask for what you deserve to be paid for that role.

Thanks for the advice. It’s hard to find market data when the titles don’t match. They updated my title and the job responsibilities- so it’s not exactly BA work. I’ll have ChatGPT this up.

Once, when I was little, I was playing Monopoly with my cousin. I was the banker, and I liberally “quantitatively eased” myself whenever he wasn’t looking.

I got unlucky and lost the game but I threw an absolute FIT, accusing my cousin of cheating because I knew how severely I’d cheated myself. How could he have won if HE didn’t cheat?!

There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?
