Trust me, if you want to look for a new job, know that at least half of your coworkers have been searching for awhile, while the other half will start looking soon.
Been there, done that. Humans pack bond so we can have a hard time leaving a place. Take into account the US economy/tough job market, its daunting to consider. But you wouldn't be considering it if you weren't ready to move on. It is not your fault that you are short staffed. That will always be a companies problem, not their employees. If they dont want to improve conditions, you have to save yourself before you can save others. "Afix your own airmask first" n all that.
I was in the same boat at my last job. Always short staffed. Ratio 6 and 7:1 where we should’ve been 4:1. The higher ups were talking raising to 8:1. I loved my coworkers, night shift made us a tight group but I had to think of my health and my license. I left there and started home care nursing (1:1 ratio). Loved it til I retired at 68. Look out for yourself.
Know that you aren’t abandoning the team, camaraderie aside, if the team is short staffed and overworked you taking another position somewhere else is not going to be the end all, be all, measure, when you leave it may inspire others to take the same action. Just know the following words will surely be unpopular on an employment site’s advice board, but you aren’t and never will be, because you are posting about your concern for the rest of your coworkers what is referred to as the “issue” your employer caused this issue through what I assume is mismanagement and or “cost cutting” which translates into short staffing departments and hoping that the employees will be “ company minded” and “ “on board” to do everything they can to help ensure they make their bottom line. Your team will always be one short and will always “ pick up the slack” and the company will always say it’ s because there’s no budget for help or some really bad management would blame you for leaving at a bad time, after you left but, and I say this with my previous warning. It’s not your fault it’s theirs. No hard feelings just take a better offer if it benefits you. Then if it’s a decent company invite your team to joi.
That’s not your problem that’s their problem if your job is very stressful for the money is not right you have to make the best decisions for yourself not for your team because it’s a reason why you’re short staff is a reason why everybody’s burned out and if you continue to work like that, you’re gonna be birthday, then your body is going to shut down and then you’re gonna wish that you have prior somewhere else to go to another job. I have been in positions like that we’ve been short body burnt out till I collapse one day and when I got to the hospital, they say I’m glad you came because you’re stressing yourself out. you burn yourself out and you’re gonna kill yourself. You need to find you something that’s gonna be a good job that works for you and your body and your skills and your mind is so.
Gratitude is everything.....Start with heart and you will come to the right decision. Prayer helps..

Do what’s best for you! If you need out, go for it!
If your employer was concerned about your coworkers’ welfare, you probably wouldn’t be leaving.
Do the coworkers you are concerned about a favor and take them with you!
The lack of leadership in management today is epidemic and disheartening. I hope you move lands you under a quality leader.
