I do the same and grade on weekends only
I agree that they need to be responsible enough to be timely
No no no. If kids want things graded quickly they can turn them in on time. I grade the items in a timely manner their item just wasn't there. Late items are absolutely my last priority. I reinforce this daily over the first couple of weeks. I also explain to them directly that if they are emailing me to ask about late items that I'm taking time to read their email instead of using my time to grade their stuff. After the first 3-4 weeks they know the system and I don't get those comments. The same is true for other emails. Kids will come and ask if I got their email without checking their email for the response.
Rising Star
Oh, so true! My priorities have changed this year. I'm more focused on my physical and mental health.
I grade during my prep period. I will no longer take work home to do with all the extra duties that keep getting added on at my school. I tell students if your assignments are late the get graded late- how ever many days it was late.
I like that idea
I only take them at my discretion and I sure don't take abuse.
If I get a nasty email a kid I might respond by saying that I am sure they meant to send a polite email and I will let them try again.
