The one word I would use to describe work/life is unpredictable. We have no busy season. Hours depend on the project and no project is the same as another. Back in the day when I was hired, I was told travel was 75%, which was true until maybe a few years ago when clients didn’t want to pay for travel and things became more digital. However travel will be expected for investigations because that work is fast and furious. With Covid, travel has stopped for now, but I expect it to resume on a limited basis next year.
👆🏼👆🏼Super accurate this person knows what’s up
Right now, doesn’t exist. Always depends on the project though.
I don't know about EY forensics specifically, but forensics in general tends to be very reactionary and urgent since so much of our work is dealing with crises. It's not uncommon (pre-covid) to find out on Friday night or Saturday morning that I need to be on a plane by Sunday afternoon for a new engagement starting first thing Monday morning.
Thanks! Ok I think I can live with that for a couple more years
Agreed with senior manager 1 - but it’s better balance than other areas. We average 40 hours a week per project. Since it is reactionary I’ve had some rare cases of finding out Friday the client needs to work finished by Monday evening for their lawyers, etc. and we have to pull weekends. This is rare. Especially since many clients in forensics have a strict law binding contract that only allow us to work up to 40 hours a week.
I’m similar to KPMG 1, but I do internal and non-client-facing work. Relaxed in general, with some urgent matters sprinkled in. 40hrs is typical.
Forensics is not for everyone. As EY4 said, it’s very unpredictable. A lot of engagements can be described as crisis management. If you like knowing exactly what you’re going to be doing in 2 months, or even next week, it’s probably not the right gig for you. We work crazy hours, weekends, holidays, and cancel PTO when client needs require. Staff are more insulated but not completely.
lol
It depends on your subservice line, if you’re far enough along in your career to choose one.
