Any moms who had a baby in public and then elsewhere who can compare their experiences?
I realize I’d probably have a less stressful pregnancy with working fewer hours not at Deloitte, but the idea of getting 5.5 whole months (or more with PTO) with a future baby seems like a dream.
Edit: I realize postpartum is not a vacation, but I’d assume most moms prefer more leave for many reasons.
Best to have the time after the baby vs before as long as you are well during pregnancy. If you are having challenges during pregnancy you can always go on FMLA. I was on leave during the entire pregnancy.
Where does it say anything about pregnancy time off
FMLA is 12 weeks total and isn’t required to be paid in most states. The parental leave benefits in large public accounting firms are excellent and are typically not as generous (or may not exist at all in industry)
Timing a pregnancy is not always easy
Even getting 12 weeks of maternity is hard to find. You likely won't find better than PwC in terms of maternity leave. The question is how much stress are you willing to put your body through before and during pregnancy? Stress level and work life balance is better elsewhere.
I had a similar thought process as you and I chose to leave rather than torture myself for the next few years with all the extra stress and long hours.
I stayed with EY for 2nd baby and had to do IVF. I do believe part of my fertility issue is due to stress at work...but of course, who really knows.
