Job-Hunting reach-out to VC from previous fundraising effort for own startup
I have e-mail archive from 1y ago of my reach-out to 65 VCs in London: we had video calls, they might remember me still, who knows.
I want to send a reply/forward message to the same e-mail thread from abc@gmail.com, saying that I am looking for roles within their VC firm. Is that a good idea?
Or shall I just start new email thread and mention how I know them?
Finally got the call! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 First day on the job.

It's probably a good idea to get some guidance before you do it. Some companies have security concerns with people logging in from other countries. And it's possible you won't even be able to log in. And besides the geographical and technical aspects, it could look bad if it somehow becomes known that you're outside the country.
True. If you go to another country without telling anyone, security might block you, thinking you're a foreign hacker. Then you either don't work that week, or you come clean about where you are and your boss most likely hears about it.
“Hi, boss. I’m planning to be in Mexico for a week on X date. Is it okay if I take my laptop with me so I can work from there?”
I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to be forthcoming. Where I work, it’s a huge issue to access any company info outside of the US so I’m not sure if asking for forgiveness later is the best option when your job could be at risk.
Mexico (depending on the location) is safer than the United States right now, and I’m saying this as a Caucasian Male . I was there much of January walking around with an Apple Vision Pro.
Don’t be a jerk, it’s quite simple. Tip well and respect the culture, don’t go down there and complain that no one speaks English. I’d simply ask if there’s an out of country policy with your boss.
IT support specialist 1 comment sounds pretty racist and the type of person to drink too much tequila, pass out and drown in a pool and have his family say the entire country isn’t safe on Fox News. I got down there often, never had a problem.
You could end up being fired and sued by the company. It's no joke to to work internationally if the company does not have legal standing in the country. This was a hot button topic during the covid era.
Speak to your company's HR rep before moving forward.
If you're willing to get into the questionable, get a VPN server set in your home network, and get a router that can route all traffic through a VPN, and just use that. GL.iNet makes some great travel routers that do all that and more.
my view , honesty is the best policy.
Definitely speak to your leadership and disclose this. Not doing so definitely puts you at risk of termination should your organization have policies against this, as many do.
Start using a background filter on all of your Zoom calls, and make sure your travel days are on your days off. The rest is your business, not theirs. Home is where the wifi is. ;)
You will generate an alert to your security for a risky login. So you may want to think of ways to prevent this from occurring.
Yes, I think being forthcoming would at least cover you if you experience VPN connection issues and end up having to contact your company's IT Support. I've worked from home on quite a few projects and if you're going to be somewhere that won't allow your company network to connect, then it may affect your work performance.
Pretty sure if your working Remote and want to work in Mexico, you need to inform team, believe it or not, you could put your company and depending on your work others at risk of compromise when it comes to the equipment and the way you access net work. Bottom line is you need to tell them your going out of country, especially remote access and if your taking company equipment, there are also rules and guidelines to using company purchased equipment and software in foreign countries. Save yourself a possibly big issue and just talk to your manager.
If you disclose, it could be denied. But that seems like the way to go regardless.
It also depends on your company data policy. If there is one that states data should not be accessed outside of US - you are high risk. Better to be transparent and disclose - This increases mutual trust .
Just tell you got flu and it’s bad . Need a week to recover.
Sounds more like you want to take a vacation on company time. Just take PTO.
Depends on your industry you could be violating ITAR and get in trouble with some dangerous characters.
Double check, some companies do not like the sending of their data overseas.
You're remote, it makes no difference where you are as long as you're 100% effective wherever you are. That's what virtual background s are for in Teams Zoom, Webex.... customers and bosses can't visually tell where you are.
I would not do it without disclosure since you are going out of the country. Too many concerns with compliance that could end up costing your job. Best to just take time off and leave work at home.
I would be forthcoming with this plan. There should not be any issues where you're working from a long as your work schedule does not change and work gets done.
I've worked in the Philippines in my past jobs
That was a bit of a schedule nightmare due to time difference. Mexico is still CST, at least.
