I was interviewing at a company and found out I was pregnant. I had 4 interviews, and when I felt they were positive, I said I am pregnant before they made an offer and I mentioned I totally understand if this is a criteria that makes you reject me and we can pursue the opportunity in the future. However, to my surprise they made an offer and much higher than what I was asking, leaving me entirely confused. They will offer mat leave but will not cover my pay on mat due to company policy.

So I’m based in UK, and in most cases we get paid mat leave up to 9 months and half for next 3 months. In this case, I won’t be getting that. Plus I just feel a bit odd, being away for 12 months (unpaid) almost a few months into joining. I am concerned if I accept this attractive offer, I might mess up or I won’t be able to perform to my 100% because of the situation.

I am UTTERLY CONFUSED. I was secretly hoping they won’t offer so I won’t have to bear the pain of walking away from it myself, but the offer has made it much harder… and instead of feeling happy I just feel upset over the whole situation
