I was looking at the firm profiles of the associates in my new group. All but 1 have one paragraph. The last one, a midlevel, has a huge profile with deals he’s worked on and stuff. Is this because he’s the best associate and truly on “partner track” or is this him being extra and asking marketing to update his profile every time he works on a deal? FWIW, the firm doesn’t list associates in news/announcements about transactions.

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

How do you bill your time? The busier I am the harder it is to bill. How do people actually bill contemporaneously in detailed terms when you bill 12 hours but literally did 100 different things in those 12 hours. And it’s never slow enough to go back and do it super detailed.

What monetary goal/target are you telling yourself to hit before quitting big law?

Best backup plans if you get fired from a Big Law firm within a year or two after graduating? Go to a non-BL firm and then try to lateral back into BL?

Can someone explain to me what law clerks are in private practice? I'm based internationally but deal with our NY office a lot, and I can not figure out what the title actually means/where it sits.
