I work for one of the big energy companies in the UK. We've had a new CTO join who has stripped out all crafted based management layers in favor of generalist managers who will manage 25-30 people. I have never seen this anywhere before. Anyone else think it's nuts to expect someone to line manager such a large group and also manage a cross-functional group - everyone from Product Managers, to Engineers, Data people etc
