I realized how racist America is... Gosh, I was so naive.

Yes PWC1: before I had a child, I imagined child Birth was painful, when I had a child , I knew child birth was truly painful.
I understand for the most part how it felt but as I live here and hear my AA friends and as I learn and as I see all these videos am like : Crap , this isn’t a one time thing. This is reality.
You have no idea how hard it is for me to understand how a white person believe they are superior to a black person. I grew up with my grandparents being great, being kings, ruling and being respected. Then I moved here and am like 🤯🤯🤯🤯, truly mind blown...
The first time I had a racist encounter that was addressed was during my internship at EY In Boston. I was heading to the client with one of the partners. We get on the train, the partner see an empty seat, he tells me to seat down. I was raised to let my elders seat first so I insist on him seating and he tells me he drove to work and has been seating for a while so am like okay. I go to seat, the woman next to me moves her bag and puts it closer to her. I turn around and I say : Thank you. The partner asks me why I said thank you and I said : Because she is making space for me to seat. Then he tells me: no, she isn’t, she thinks you will grab her purse and run. I ask him why she would think that ? Everyone at the train was so chocked. The partner was white, he had another woman black partner take me to lunch to explain to me what was going on with black peoples in America. Since then, my life changed forever.
You guys have no idea, How many times I said thank you to people moving in an elevator to leave me all the space. So many times at the train station people got up when I sat. 🤦🏾♀️ How many times I got pulled over and the police officer asking my white friends if they are okay. They say yes, and he insists: They re assure him before we are let go 😭...
This is my perspective. Growing up I didn’t witness this but am now married to an AA and we have a son. We are having very difficult conversation with him. Conversations he would never received if he grew up in Africa.
The first time my husband visited my country ( Ghana). He was mind blown and then realized why I didn’t truly get it at first .
This is truly sad and heart breaking. It’s definitely not on purpose. As one learns the history of America, you just hope and wish some of those racial issues are behind us. I mean, the US had a black president, come to find out, who are we kidding??
Let’s hear it
