"Dear Boss,
You know how much I like working here. However, I just received a job offer for $xxxxx amount from another agency. That said, I would love to stay here. Is there any way you can match that offer? Let me know if you want to set up a meeting to discuss.
Love,
Associate"
Be prepared for them to say "no"
Well I know that some of my peers are making over 10k more than me. For the same role. Same level of experience.
But they were hired at that position and I was promoted from within.
Not an associate. Just forgot to edit that
This is typically what happens.
As ACD1 says, be fully prepared for your current employer to say no (and be prepared to leave). You can always boomerang later.
Counteroffers don’t solve anything and employees are often viewed as disloyal by management for considering leaving. This is also a black mark on you if there are layoffs in the future. Take the new job and move on.
What do you mean brands you don't want to work on? One thing I've learned is that a "cool" brand can be an awful client and vice/versa. I'd rather work with an easy client than a nightmare because it's a cool brand. Realistically, at the associate level I don't think you have much leverage. I would take the other gig, give notice and if they really want you to stay MAYBE they'll offer to match it but that's a long shot.
