If you're a freelancer, how do you go about getting your invoices paid on time? I hate reminding editors for payments but also, I am not a volunteer and do need to be paid what I am owed.

So we have done, Ask the recruiter, fireside chats w executive mgmt, events w Naaap and ascend. With everyone still working from home ppl are not engaged and it is harder for networking.
