First off, how dare you. No bites for me yet this year.
Secondly, I’d say you need to hit your annual number before you quit the year. You never know what the future holds, so making the money while you can is smart. (See me, having no bites)
I think you’d have to account for potentially not having a fast start when you pick it back up again (especially if we’re in a trade war with Earth). Maybe 1.5X a year’s worth of living expenses? But I’m probably a little on the cautious side about things in general.
If you take the rest of the year off, can I have your clients 😂 Good to see someone doing well 👊
First person I’ve heard of doing well on Fish Bowl in months.

Roughly I need to be busy for 8 months out of the year to make a good living.
What about Q4? We start bringing in freelancers in Sept! Maybe enjoy Summer & come back for Q4.
Shhh… let them take the year off so some of us can get some work. It’s dog eat dog out here.
Unfortunately I work all year no matter what the maximum cost seems to be. I don’t plan to saying no to money opps, and I make my vacations work around my work.
You’re the one I guess. Work as much as you can, and don’t stop until the work stops.
You don’t need money for things? Considering the way purchasing and spending works in a cyclical fashion. I’d keep some holds splish splashed on my cal throughout the year for contingency sake.
Sounds amazing for you. I’m relatively new to freelancing (started only mid 2023) but I do a financial projection to identify essential sales target for the year that covers my household expenses (I’m a solo caregiver as well) and a secondary target for additional expenses I wish to spend on which can be optional. So I track my earnings and expenses and see if I am on track or need to ramp things up or can afford to take a break. So I’d say your comfort figure will vary.
How did you start freelancing?
I quit my job and said ‘I’m now a freelancer’.
Take every single job you get until you have enough savings to cover a freak accident or few months without any work.
