I'm an attorney in Miami, but recently I’ve had a lot of winter travel to the Midwest and New England, including for court appearances. I’m struggling with what shoes to wear. Wearing my pumps on icy, uneven sidewalks doesn’t seem safe, and there’s no way to squeeze my winter boots into my court bag. So what do attorneys wear to court in snowy climates? Are there court-appropriate winter shoes?

Hope this isn’t too sensitive a topic to ask about, but for all those with deeper Indian roots than I do (born in or living in India), can you please explain why some people posit that even having this chat perpetuates the negative parts of a caste system? My perhaps naive perspective is that Brahmins are a caste but also a religious subsect. One can be religious and seek similar devotees without believing in or perpetuating caste hierarchy. Have you had to change your start date after accepting an offer and how did it go? I told them I need to give 30 day notice and so I set my start date (incorrectly) assuming the background check and drug screen would take a few days to clear. However, the drug screen is now taking over a week and a half (still not finished, maybe tomorrow). Apparently things are much slower due to staffing issues and labs are backed up. It’s cutting into my 30 day notice significantly. Thoughts?
