So this happened to me recently. I kept an eye on a job I always wanted but they required a license which I was very close to getting but still takes time. I then found a job doing similar work to the job I had ar the time but with a better company. That new job wanted me to start weeks later after acceptance and during that wait time I got my LCSW and found that the job I wanted was still open and quickly got hired. I rescinded my acceptance for the one job and took the job I wanted. I do not regret this at all. I was honest and professional with everyone and it worked out. The job I had accepted understood my position and while they were disappointed they made it clear they wished me well and said I was welcome to apply in the future if things didn’t work out.Take the job your heart is into. Everyone will understand, you will not be the first to do this. Social work is hard and we all deserve to work our dream job when the opportunity comes our way. Good luck
Wow thank you, do you think it worth pushing out my start date further until I have more clarity about this other position? I was supposed to start mid December and I pushed it to beginning of January
Which company pays more?
Glad to see you’re getting it now.
Apply and see what happens?
That’s a good idea, I am visiting their office next week
Do what's best for YOU. If you stick it out, I'm afraid the "what if" will haunt you.

There’s a “hidden” job market out there people may not be aware of. Sometimes administrators will open a position if they see the right candidate for a specific role. Or, they will post jobs internally unbeknownst to recruiters that are filled by referrals or internal candidates. So, just because the job isn’t posted, doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t a job for you. Based on what you said, sounds like the stage might be set for you to get your foot in the door.
It depends. What’s the company?
The big one is John’s Hopkins. The other is a smaller company
