A red flag I've noticed is just that priorities will be misplaced. The mission is to educate the students, and that should be obvious to everyone. But if people are focused on what amounts to office politics, or gamesmanship within the district, that's a really bad sign.

I think our corporation seems more geared to office politics, it's who you know and what can you do for me.
When you have an idea, suggestion, or question you have to go through the administrator's favorites instead of being able to go to them directly.
The students don't know who the administrators are.
It is sad that you have to allow someone else to get credit for your idea. Good administration should value varying ideas!

When the select few run everything, and snark at or make fun of people. You the side-ways glances when someone says things.
Which results in a high staff turnover, like my current school.
Usually if you feel that way then you are

I think you are so correct. I hate the company politics that lead to a toxic work environment.
When all the favorites get attention and kudos for every idea they have. Now I am not an advocate for saying “ look at me” however they get the attention. When admin is part of the good boy club. When the principal can’t be nice towards you. When stupid comments are made toward you on things you wear from the top administrator. And when the TC rolls her eyes at you when you ask for help or ask a question.
As toxic as it can be!!!!!!

Many years ago, a teacher got a $7500 donation given to the school. She was whooped at and bragged up big time. She also got by with so many things that other teachers got in trouble for.

What is your experience that has happened to make you feel that your high school is a toxic environment
There is such a thing as the “Peter Principle”. Unfortunately, my current school also has such difficult underperforming leads, that the rest of the staff suffer. I am a ML Coordinator and left out of the PLCs purposely. I have to fight for what is legally obligated to students. I have more degrees and experience, however not as much seniority in this building. Either I am a significant threat and remind them how much they need to improve, or they just don’t care.
Cross training staff would help reduce jealousy and issues. Problems are just swept under the rug and allowed to grow! It is only a matter of time before severe issues come up, they already are. Students pick up on the stress and animosity! It is a serious problem.
Is the principal operating on keep your friends close and your enemies closer? She has little awareness how petty her leads are to staff. Staff know the leads are incompetent in their work and lack skills necessary to lead and to motivate others. Too much time is spent endlessly reading data that teachers already know how to do and implement as well as take the required steps in lessons to move students forward. However, teachers are treated like idiots that can’t read their own data. A huge waste of time! Teachers already lack time. It’s a horrible structure!

Yes, sometimes teachers are treated like idiots by people who have never taught in a classroom. Being a coach, counselor, Dean, or interventionist does not give someone teacher experience or training!
When administrators have "favorites"
Chief
Oh for real! It happens all the time! What's sad is when administrators put those "favorites" into leadership roles, and they only have the ability of a follower.
