Yes. This policy would force me to come out or lie if it was mandatory. Just encourage it but don’t require it. I would not want to put my non preferred pronouns but also not ready to put my preferred pronouns.
Thanks for your perspective!
Mandating it seems inappropriate but it should be encouraged IMHO. I’m cis as well but in my conversations with trans and NB folks over the years - esp around this topic (pronouns in mail signatures), if they see preferred pronouns in signatures, they tend to perceive it positively and feel more comfortable putting their own pronouns on there and/or coming out. It’s an indicator of an inclusive culture. I’m sure not everyone perceives this in the same way though but I tend to agree that requiring it is probably not great either.

Should be opt-in and not mandatory. What should be mandatory is a DE&I training that raises awareness of the purpose.
Yes!! This, so much!
Echoing the need to not forcefully out people. My firm made pronouns in signatures an optional but encouraged thing, and it eventually made me comfortable enough to come out on my own, but I struggled with thay decision for months before hand.
We made personal pronouns available on an opt-in basis earlier this year. The response has been tremendous but not universal. I would say that we had the best possible response: more users than we had expected, yet still some users that felt it either uncomfortable or unnecessary and did not opt in. I would recommend making pronouns available without making them mandatory just from this experience.
Thank you! It’s weird but even as a gay guy I recognize that if somebody has pronouns in their name they’re probably not going to have an issue with gay people either so I completely understand the ally thing and also why it shouldn’t be forced
Noo. This would cause closeted trans people like me either dysphoria or force them to come out. Huge no no
