I’m eager to advance my career and make a more significant impact in my career, but I've learned that with any goal, understanding the necessary steps is most important in helping achieve the goals. So here's me extending my question to people who are clearly qualified to answer - what skills and experiences should I work on for transitioning from a Relationship Manager to a Senior Portfolio Manager? What helped you navigate this journey the most? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Consider pursuing advanced certifications. I would highly recommend a CFA designation, which is highly regarded in the industry. It will deepen your understanding of investment strategies, portfolio management, and financial analysis more than several years of trying to learn from experience. As a Relationship Manager, I'm sure you already have experience in client interactions but hone your ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively and also focus on deepening your existing client relationships by understanding their long-term goals as case studies for your future. Compensation throughout all retail sales is less than adequate. You can make just as much working at McDonald's without nearly the amount of stress from Sales goals and other standards you need to meet.

1st year. I have a decent amount of client email/phone interaction. One partner frequently asks me to communicate with clients, and the partner tells me to ask if I have any questions before emailing the client.

I almost always respond to the partner with my thoughts and ask partner whether P agrees with my thoughts, prior to emailing client. At what point should I be skipping that step and just email client? I’m worried about making a mistake, but most of the time P agrees with my “draft”
