Not trying to discredit your feelings and you’re right about the big disparity in comp but also when you’re in the front office if you underperform you’re the first to be laid off. Very rarely you see a trader or someone in a front office capacity where everyone knows that person is incompetent and still getting a bonus. Normally they cut the bonus and then the signs of being made redundant soon become evidently clear. Whereas in the back office while there are many talented people in the back office I’ve come across plenty who are literally useless. And sometimes still remain even at Tier 1 banks because in the end they’re doing a job most wouldn’t take because of the low pay.
If it's affecting your morale, I would say try it out. You can always go back if it doesn't work out. That's what I always tell myself right before a big and scary change.
Making a move for better pay definitely makes sense. Different roles are compensated differently, and it’s frustrating when your team consistently gets the short end during bonus season. Risk or middle-office roles often come with higher salaries and more bonus potential, but they can also mean extra stress and certifications. The key is weighing whether the financial upside outweighs the added pressure and learning curve. Sometimes worth the move, sometimes not.

I would move teams to try to get better pay. Each department has a set amount of budget to allocate so if the team you’re on gives very little, chances are it will keep staying that way unless you pivot

Idk I’m thankful our managers took less bonus to give us higher ones due to all the bullshit we dealt with last year.
