I'm trying to find out from other job hunters and recruiters if LinkedIn is legitimately necessary or just another thing people say you should do. I've gotten by without it before, but that was pre-pandemic. Is having a profile on LinkedIn really that important?

I had a few interviews from recruiters on linked in that found me because of my profile. I am also starting another job in 2 weeks from a job I found on Linked-in. I'm sure I could have found it elsewhere but it helped.

I absolutely hate Linked in but I have it because recruiters do look at it. I had a recruiter call me and she said she had sent me a message on Linked in and because I never use it, I hadn't seen her message. I was really glad she called me.

In today's world a LinkedIn profile is just a necessity, partly because it simply looks bizarre if you don't have one. I don't put a lot of faith in LinkedIn, and I'm honestly not a big fan of the site. I can't stand the bizarre self-congratulatory nature of so much of the content. It's still just something we need to deal with, simply because a lot of other people deal with it.
