No. I don’t make that much. I prefer to use my generosity for people who I like/love and respect and treat me the same.
Yes I always do. I make them an ornament for their tree but I always make snowmen out of the balls so if they do not celebrate it’s still a winter ornament. I do a different version every year and put their name on it, year, grade and my name on it. It’s very special because I make each one a little different. Kids have told me they still hang their ornaments on the tree through high school.
I think it would be much more feasible for an elementary school teacher to do this than a secondary teacher…25-30 students vs 100+.
Plus, I’m sure it helps with the student-teacher connection that carries over into January. As a high school teacher, I may get a handful of students next semester, but I’d say that about 40% of students I won’t see ever again in my class.
My friend that works at McD’s gave me 44 Glory Bear beanie babies. I have 43 students so that covered me.
I give each kid a scholastic book. I used to make cute little treat bags but that got to expensive and I like to make sure kids have access to books. I pick one of the winter theme books. Everyone gets the same one.
I use to buy gifts for my kindergarten students and up to grade 2. I stopped a few years ago because it got expensive for me to buy 35 gifts all under $10!.
Nope but I also do not believe in this type of Christmas and let my students and coworkers know I do not like to give or receive gifts. I am like this across the board the only holiday I celebrate is Thanksgiving. I do not even celebrate my birthday for personal reasons. I am not a Christian.
I had (retired now!) usually between 115-130 students every year. I would buy blow pops and give them as a treat for break. I usually bought them right after Halloween when they were on sale. It didn’t cost much and the kids loved them.
Yes. I buy them a book
I have fewer and fewer students who celebrate Christmas. I do give each of my 45-50 students a free homework pass with a candy cane. I’m probably moving to just homework passes next year. Cleaning up my room before leaving for break, I found several candy canes left behind.
No, that wouldn't occur to me, as it wouldn't be a good idea. Picking out presents that wouldn't be a problem would be a problem in itself. And some of the students don't celebrate Christmas, so it wouldn't be right to mark the holiday for some and not for others.
A candy can for each. Usually I have an alternative for students who don’t do mints. I didn’t this year. I had a couple of students who gave them to friends, because they didn’t want them.
I do candy canes, too. I buy the peppermint ones and cherry ones so they can choose!
I have close to 250 students across all my classes. There’s no way I could afford to give out gifts. I give out candy canes, and sometimes generic soda cans.
Yea, as an elementary teacher it’s second nature to me. I always hit the clearance isle and find them something nice spending around 3 dollars on each of them. The boys get the same thing as well as the girls.
Absolutely, 100% NO. And it wouldn't be appropriate if I did. Weird question.
No. A few things throughout the year (e.g. chips, soda), but nothing for the holidays. Too 💲
