There’s no telling the rhyme or reason when it comes to layoffs. On paper it makes sense that higher earners would be in a spot, but reality is all over the place. If anything the biggest problem is going to be finding something else after the fact that comes close to what you were making before.
That happened to me recently. Got laid off with a bunch of others chosen by title read compensation band. Been with org for ten years… salary kept increasing but growth stunted
Not yet and I wanted to travel a bit before jumping back in. Now a bit stressed lol
That’s a tough thought, and I get it. It doesn't mean you are the target, but you could become one. From what I’ve seen, if performance is equal across a team, higher salaries can become a factor, especially if budgets are tight. But it’s not always that simple. Sometimes they cut based on role overlap, team politics, or strategic shifts. If you’re in that higher bracket, make sure you’re also visible, helpful, and indispensable.
I’d like to think it doesn’t affect it but am starting to question that
If it was your business, what would you do?
Businesses don't hand out higher comp to be nice. It's under the presumption that those team members deliver higher value. If they're getting the same value for less, they'll trim the fat... hopefully with decent severance.
Yeah agreed. Would probably cut too if they were t delivering outsized value
