If you’re an attorney and someone asks how you are and you respond with: “Living the Dream”. Please stop.

Will do, thanks!

Well…if “living the dream” is meant ironically then it’s actually quite funny.

like

I don’t know. I’ve heard people saying “living the dream” quite seriously. Same with “another day in paradise.” It’s almost reverse irony. If such a thing exists. These are all people of independent means, however, who find the “reverse irony” funny.

I think I’m physically incapable of not doing this. I don’t want to do it. It leaves my mouth and I cringe. But it’s automatic. Why are we like this??

Irony my friend......

I started saying: "Well... I'm here. So there's that."

That’s a more professional response than my standard “same shit, different day.”

“Livin the dream” is useful and accurate sometimes since nightmares are a kind of dream.

“Another day not matching Milbank, how do you think I am?” Works at any level.

My buddy and I used to handle cases on contingency. Back then, our saying was “another day, and hopefully another dollar.”

My go to response is “well, I woke up on the right side of the grass.” Always gets a few perplexed looks on the zoom.

I said “well I’m here and alive” the other day. I don’t even know why

Yeah the correct answer to how are you is: “afraid.”

Got it. Thanks.

I just burst out laughing. Do you work with me? This is my automatic response to any inquiry as to how I’m doing, but dripping in sarcasm. I switch between “living the dream” and “another day in paradise.”

Anyone ever have experience negotiating a new offer to include unvested 401k match and stock grants from your current employer? I hate leaving money on the table but there are some good roles out there. I’m not fully vested in my current 401k yet and my stock grants haven’t matured yet either. This would be at a global director level.

3 years of experience as a corporate lawyer.
Expecting an offer from both Deloitte India and Capgemini.
Deloitte India - Senior Consultant
Capgemini - Associate Consultant

Capgemini has verbally promised me 9 LPA but the offer is yet to be released.
Deloitte India has not yet communicated any offer, neither verbal nor formal.

I am more inclined towards joining Deloitte India as it is a bigger position than Capgemini.

Bit of a niche topic: I’ve been in TS/SCI processing for a Science/Tech/Weapons analyst position with the CIA for 3 yrs since I finished grad school in chemistry, but CIA positions are sort of set it and forget it since they can take so long. I’ve since been focused on a Patent Attorney track and am with a firm that will support me taking the patent bar/law school. If I get through processing and go to the CIA for some time, do you think would I be accepted back into patent law later on?
