Contrary to popular belief. Employers want you to be direct. It shows integrity. Just don’t put your foot in your mouth, and you’ll be just fine. Know who you’re dealing with. That’s the key to everything.
I have. It works most of the time, unless they’re just not interested at all. Which usually means that they were only looking to hire a few people at a time.
Absolutely be direct. I would not necessarily say "blunt", but if you feel the question or situation warrants it, you can certainly ASK "Can I be blunt?" - but keep it tactful!
Honestly & Transparency are *always* the BEST options! Truth will gain you respect.

You can get respect but what if you can’t get any jobs and stability?
It’s a line to walk for me. I don’t want to dance around the things that are important to me, but also don’t want to be overly direct to the point they are scared away. Also depends a lot on the interviewer how much you can lean one way or the other.
Depends if you want the job, no employeer wants a troublesome employee.
And if that is their attitude, then you probably don't want to work for them. Not that hard to figure out, unless you really want a miserable job.
