That answer doesn't strike me as that odd, especially if this was an introductory call. And it could also have something to do with whether the recruiter worked for a company or dealt with a wide variety of clients. If it struck you odd and you got a bad feel from it, don't deal with them, but it may not mean much of anything.
I am so excited 😊 for this job
As a former recruiter, that is not odd in any way. When you talk to the hiring manager, have your questions ready.
Warning sign. They should be prepared to give you some ball park numbers for this. And if they're being intentionally vague then it probably means they're hiding something.
We have rock star sales reps that make over 200k a year. We have others that make 60k a year. What kind of sales rep are you? We give our new reps these numbers and do not use an outside recruiting company. So to answer your question. It totally depends how n your talent and work ethic.
My current team members make $75k to $400k at this moment. So yeah it varies.
Well, it's truthful, as it does vary. May be better to ask- what are the avg earnings for the 1st yr and 2nd yr for someone new in this role?
Looking forward to driving with Hop Skip Drive

Big red flag. If they cannot answer basic comp questions, imagine how transparent they are about commissions. “It varies” usually means “you’ll find out too late.”
For you'll saying it varies, each of your reps has a defined comp plan, with a salary (if not 100% commission) and guidelines and accelerators for how commission is paid out.
Any new role should have a range for all of the components, including expected revenue targets. No competent sales organization hires without a firm understanding of what comp to offer.
Incompetent doesn't mean it won't be lucrative, though in my mind there a higher likelihood to underachieving rather than overachieve.
