What is the expected number of hours (which includes overtime, admin, etc.) we are supposed to reach each year?

The average in my office is roughly 2400 hours. This includes charge hours, CPE, admin, PTO, coaching, business development, etc. This means there are approx 300 hours of overtime. We still have some outliers who work far too many hours and we always try to find ways to balance among everyone (but much easier said than done).

Overall, the measure is better discussed in terms of efficiency and value and not hours. Some people still reward hours. But it doesnt mean its efficient or effective or valuable. I am more concerned with focus, quality and client service.

This is an industry challenge. Also, when there is someone who is highly efficient, often their reward is additional work (they are sought after). We all need to be proactive and cognizant of such situations to create a smoother balance among all employees (and partners too).

Not sure about total hours but I am normally between 2000 and 2200 billable hours a year. So probably around 2500 total hours. The better work you do the more hours you’ll have as you’ll be wanted on engagements and won’t be unassigned. Work hard and don’t work for hours

I had utilization target of 85% in advisory

This should be interesting to see what happens over the next few years with the push towards automation (faster testing of controls etc). I am sure we aren’t the only firm who will have less hours per engagement to bill.

Currently live in NYC and I absolutely hate it as I love mountains and playing outdoors. I can either relocate now and have a stagnant but decent career that will allow me to enjoy my life. Yet, I also have ambition to climb up this corporate ladder in NYC and grind out here and hope to retire sooner and live wherever I want hopefully in 15 years or so and meantime travel occasionally to enjoy those things. Please share your wisdom. I need some advice. My LOS is pretty much exclusively NYC.

Does anyone have a similar experience? I interviewed with recruiters from two of "Big 4". Both interviews went well, and I was told the recruiters will submit my resume to the partners and senior managers for the next interviews. 3 weeks later, I received the rejection letters without the next interview. I wonder why the partners even not bothered to interview me. If it matters, I am a CPA with 3 years non-PA experience and applied for experienced associate positions. I appreciate any insights.
