when companies want x number of years of experience having that x number of experience helps get you to the interview because no matter how good you are or how much you learn, all they wanna see is numbers on a paper. so building up those numbers past the minimum threshold of most jobs helps in the long term, it wont get you a job, but itll help when they filter out people based on that number. if they want 5 years and you have 4, and they decide to filter out all applicants with less than 5, then your already out of the pool of applicants simply because you dont have that arbitrary number.
