I unfortunately have the same experience. Ever since I got laid off in 2020 from a job I loved so much, I've had so much trouble finding and keeping a job that would last over a year. Prior to that I kept every job on average at least 3-4yrs. In my experience - on indeed mostly but also other sites, I'm not even getting a phone call. Most jobs ghost you at whatever stage and I am convinced they're not truly hiring but get benefits from the job posting so that's all they care about.
Prior to 2020 I was working with a couple of temp agencies / recruiting companies and had great success and easily was finding jobs - within a week or 2 I'll be working full time for a decent company. Now since 2024 I've reached multiple times to 2 of those agencies - Robert Half which was my top choice prior 2020, won't respond to my applications, won't get in touch with me and all the jobs I've applied have reached dead end after submission and I have no idea why. They used to grab your resume and start searching what they have in their system as a match. It was such a great experience because they made you feel at ease. Now they won't even send you a rejection email when you apply, The other one is even weirder is Randstad - I called 2 of the offices closest to me, no one answers the phone, I showed up couple of times at their office - its always locked and no one responds to my applications. So creepy. If they're out of business, they should say so.
Im getting very discouraged as it seems like the job market is getting worse by the minute thanks to AI and lousy recruiters. Good luck on your search, I hope you find your best fit!
You have to be careful because there are people out to get your identify. Take for example someone contacted me on LinkedIn inMail. I responded by requesting the opportunity details. They sent me the opportunity and asked that I send my resume. I politely rejected the opportunity. They responded with salary will not be an issue and stressed I send my resume. First, I simply stated in my initial response, "I think I'll have to pass but thanks for the consideration". Second, LinkedIn displays my career history so there was no other reason for my resume than to obtain my email and phone information. Match that with what they already see in my LinkedIn profile, full name, state and employer history, and bad actors have what they need. So be careful with what info you send.
Very scary. I too applied to a job that I thought was real, until they asked for my credit score.????.... such weirdness that I did not go through with their process. This was posted from LINKED IN too !
I have been a recruiter since August 2000. Something is very different about this job market. You're not alone. Most jobs are being filled (85%) in healthcare, educations, and service jobs. 94% of jobs in past year were filled by Females. Those jobs that are open are receiving a record number of applicants.
What a weird take. The fact people like you are directly involved in hiring people is scary.
That seems to be the pattern these days because I've been experiencing that as well.
Same experience. I sent a very generous availability schedule and was ghosted. A few days later, I saw them readvertise the job.
I’m not surprised tbh, I’m just curious about what is happening behind the scenes in cases like this. Would be great if anyone from the recruitment side could offer some insights.
Maybe it is a clairvoyance test. The candidate is expected to bingo the one and only “correct” time slot, and we are just failing the test...
The fact that I see your responses to my response is exactly why job seekers struggle. This mindset holding you back can only be fixed by you and you alone. I wish you luck.
Thank you for making my point ♥️
Whatever the case, this is out of our hands.
1. "You cannot please everyone; control the things you can control." ~Suncha Ferreira (Victus Group)/Mark 8:36, Matthew 13:12
• "If you feel guilty, and worry about not being a good person, then it's a sign that you are a good person. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise; bad people don't think about such things, and justify themselves as righteous." ~Suncha Ferreira/Psalm 51:17
2. The grass withers, the flowers fade, because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40:7-8)
3. The world hates liabilities, and would rather they not exist, as much as the rules dictate that all life is inherently valuable. (Proverbs 25:17)
•Even in a community of liabilities, there is no place for a liability. (John 15:18)
4. You cannot experience death, for it would be like getting put under anesthesia. (Ecclesiastes 9:5)
5. Suicide is not a sin which leads to hell (separation), but rather, it is unbelief. (John 3:16-21)
6. Despite all that you do to make your exit foolproof, there is always that one percent chance you'll survive simply because it "wasn't your time yet”. (Psalm 33:10-11)
Therefore, as much as I desire to live, and that a world without me would be awfully dull and grey, this isn't up to me; if I die, I die; though my father, mother, and the whole world forsake me, the Lord will bring me up. (Esther 4:11, Psalm 27:10)
So be it.
That is fine…I will be glad to give you a good job referral kindly send me a message —
fergusonandy 532 @ gmail com
I’ll be waiting for your response
1. what is fine?
2. and why all of a sudden, you would be given a job referral to a complete stranger that you don't know anything about. including such minor details as profession (Lab Tech in my nickname really could be anything, from food QA to veterinary) and location?
Yep, ghosting by HR and TA seems to be the norm now a days. I did several rounds of interview for a senior marketing position, and then was totally ghosted by the company. I knew I hadn’t got the role when I saw it advertised again on LinkedIn 🤯
Hm. If the role was posted again, then it’s not like you didn’t get it — no one did.
It’s not like they reposted it because all applicants were a bad match. Some people went through several rounds of interviews, so clearly there were candidates worth talking to beyond a brief HR call. And it’s not like they are looking for an experienced astrophysicist specializing in red dwarfs.
So if they were unable to choose anyone and decided to repost, then they are probably not really hiring.
Though here I can make a guess about what may be going on. Is it a senior position? Maybe it’s about getting free consulting. I have a friend in a top cybersecurity management position who says ones she went through eight rounds of interviews and then was told, “we decided to go another way.” She is convinced it was all about getting her answers to questions like, “What would you do if…?” while they wrote everything down.
I’m not at that level — I’m just a lab tech/chemist — so nobody is trying to get free expertise out of me. If I get ghosted after an interview, it’s usually because they picked someone else, and the position never reopens. But what I don’t understand is ask to speak to me and ghost me before speaking. If they didn’t like my resume, why ask for an interview? And if they thought I was worth speaking to, why ghost me?
And yes, there are ghost jobs out there in a really dramatic amount. I’ve been monitoring city jobs in my area for almost a year. Hope do get water quality lab position. There was an opening before I realized I would need to look for a job, but I was a little too late to apply. They don’t pay as well as my last job, but the water plant is literally 10 minutes away from me, so I kept watching and I see all other openings there.
They have had a Water Treatment Operator III position open that entire time. They are clearly not hiring. I simply do not believe that no qualified person applied during all that time. But even if, for some mysterious reason, no T3 applied, it has been a year, and they already have T2 operators there — it’s a functioning plant. I have a T2 license myself, even though I never worked as an operator, and I swear it would not be hard even for me to pass that exam. So why is no one already working there at the T2 level willing to move up?
They also have a Distribution Crew Leader position open for more than six months. That’s even weirder. They keep “looking,” while someone has obviously been performing those crew leader duties for over half a year already. But apparently that person is not good enough to officially promote. I bet that person is getting more unhappy every day. That’s terrible for team morale. And yet they keep doing it.
