It's crap when you have a phone interview or an inperson interview and you hear how impressed they are with your resume and in the same breath and sentence you also hear them say crap about experience. I get told we need someone with experience and yet how do they expect you to gain experience without even giving a person that chance to gain experience. Did a career change to better my family n I'm still finding myself stuck in the same bs rut because no one is willing to take a chance.

Maybe you can always let them know that you’re not someone shy of a challenge and if they have a senior admin in he network someone that would be willing to be your mentor and support for advice and things of that nature you’d be more than prepared.

Maybe you need to find a mentor apart from this experience, someone that can help you develop and grow so that you can demonstrate that you have the skills. Maybe someone would be willing to let you shadow them or help with projects on the side for addl experience, kind of like an internship. It’s not just you, everyone out there without the formal resume qualifiers and listed experience are having a hard time with being given the opportunity to grow and advance. I offer internship for just that reason, many students are even graduating with advanced degrees but can’t get a job without experience, which… unfortunately… was not part of the communications to those students that would be 50% of the equation when pursuing and actual profession.

But yah… you just have to keep applying and applying until you find someone that WILL be willing to take a chance on you. I didn’t know people, I only grew by sheer grit to learn and develop and grow!

Very true. I have several letters of recommendations and I send those when I send my resume. But Medical Billing & Coding is hard to find someone who will let you shadow. It's just frustrating how with the way cost of things are rising n you need a better paying position in order to keep up. Believe me I always tell them, I love a good challenge and thrive off of a challenge. The job I'm at now isn't even within the scope I went to school for and it's not a challenge for me. I just think it's crap how positial employers will make it all sound great then there's the experience stuff n then being ghosted (being ghosted is way worst)

Additional Posts in Healthcare Administrators/Healthcare Leadership

Hello, I have been with the same company for 17 years. I am a supervisor for a laboratory in patient services. I worked my way up and currently have no degrees. Has anyone been able to work their way up in a company and then find a similar job with another company? I’m nervous that I’m stuck based on the fact that I don’t have a degree.

I have an MHA and 4 years of management experience. I’m currently a manager, but seeking a director level position. Any advice for trying to temper my expectations? I feel like all director level positions have 5 years in the posting, but a lot of my peers with the same experience are already in director level positions. Are they just lucky? Am I jumping the gun? Do I just need to stick it out?

Hello and welcome to the bowl! Please feel free to post questions, share insights and provide anecdotes from your current or future careers!

I currently work in Atlanta for a healthcare management company that is local to the area. I just got into the healthcare industry and have my bachelors degree in health science. I work in a position in the revenue cycle and I am looking to possibly get a new job in a more established company. I want more stability and opportunity within a company. Does anyone know of any places in/around Atlanta or remote that may fit this criteria? Sorry for the vagueness. Thanks!
