Any gyals in Toronto?
Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Looking for work is like dating. You need to have a practice in place so your self esteem is not destroyed. No resentment, compare & despair, and definitely no negativity. I know. That is so hard after being vulnerable and getting no after no.
I need to remind myself, here’s the formula I need.
1. It’s all about feeling good. Do things that bring you joy. Music, dance around your living room, kickboxing, cook, read. Doesn’t matter what.
2. When you’re in the good feeling zone, let your intuition have fun and see what you want. The kind of environment you want. Don’t think too hard. Listen to what feels in line with who you are.
3. Take small actions in that direction. You want to work in children’s publishing or corporate finance, take one step to make the connections. You get it.
4. Here’s the biggie. (I need to hear this right now too.) Other people’s paths are none of your business. Before going on social media, be intentional. No LinkedIn surfing! If it’s about searching for colleagues in Childrens publishing, focus on that and it will feel so good to take a step towards what YOU want.
5. Bonus step. Let go of the outcome. That’s also none of your business. All we can do is focus on our intentions, our actions, our attitude, our happiness, our preparation. What we can’t control is other people. People will continue to get promoted or hired and if we evaluate, it’s sucks our good energy. If we let go and practice steps 1-3 we keep our integrity and peace. Now that is so attractive to hiring managers and coworkers and family and friends.

It’s the industry of misfit toys. We’re all there.
I started to (try to) think it’s encouraging when people I don’t believe are as good get big jobs. Means the door is wide open.
Genius post! Thanks!
Lots of forgetting and stumbling = genius. Lol
Someone good with solid work I can handle and respect, do your thing. A 23-yr old hack that probably doesn’t want to be in advertising anyway getting a gig at a good shop, and posting selfies of doing everything but actually working fucking annoys. Especially when they leave a year later for Spotify or TikTok and wasted everyone’s time.
This is not a typical thing that happens very often. Did you just make up a guy in your head and get mad at him? Or do you have beef with someone specific?
I definitely felt (feel) like this when I saw the same things. You are not alone and I’d bet nowhere near the misfitiest (too much self awareness for that)
Same.
