In my experience, any kind of networking can be productive. To some extent the medium doesn't even matter, the substance of the discussion is what counts. But, I'd also say that if it's the first time you're meeting someone, it's just better to have it be in person. You can just relate to people better and pick up on their communication style more effectively. So I'd say both scenarios can work just fine, but whenever it's practical, try to meet up with people in person.
I’ve built great connections virtually, but landing actual job opportunities? That still seems to favor in-person interactions. I’ve had plenty of LinkedIn convos fizzle out, but grabbing coffee with someone from a networking event led to a freelance gig. My new approach? Start online, build the relationship, and transition to in-person or video calls whenever possible. The combination works best.
Virtual networking is like online dating—great for introductions, but real opportunities happen when you take it offline.

Virtual networking can be just as effective—many people land jobs through LinkedIn and online communities. The key is consistency and genuine engagement. That said, face-to-face still builds trust faster. Best approach? A mix of both! 💡
