When it negatively impacts the reputation of the firm and their ability to bring in more businesses.
I worked at a small, dysfunctional firm. Senior associate would walk in usually after lunch (not knocking timing - he was likely in court in the morning - then all chaos as he would review pleadings, have multiple edits and then edit what he’s previously wanted for 3 or so hours before he would leave and we could all take a breath
I dealt with this too. She was a partner who wasn’t profitable, but she managed to convince the managing partner she was indispensable to both him and the firm. All this while mocking him behind his back. She was extremely volatile; her mood could shift in an instant. Anytime leadership got close to catching onto her behavior, she found a way to scapegoat someone else and absolve herself. She’s the type of person only time can defeat. No one puts up with people like that longterm and they often end up alone.
