I don’t there are any tricks here to employ - see if you have any connections or connections of connections that have a tie to the firm and try to leverage that if possible.
Generally, I think not getting too hung up on individual firms, casting your net wide, and taking the best opportunity is the best approach.
Good advice. Been really impressed by this firm but I will definitely be casting a wide net regardless.
I would touch base with career services. They should know best about your approach based on school, state, ties, background, interests, firm, etc, and be able to connect you with alumni. Good luck!
Reach out directly. My law school didn’t do oci with any of the firms I was interested in. Mostly because it was a regional school and I wanted to work in a different city. I contacted the recruiting team directly or through lawyer I had purposefully sought out and networked with and was able to get about 12 interviews that way and walked away with 7 big law offers.
Definitely this. And try to network with an internal contact there if possible.
Firms are hurting for talent and law school class sizes haven't caught up fully to the demand yet, so there's a higher chance that you'll get a second look. But manage your expectations -- usually a cold outreach without OCI will get deprioritized.
Why don’t you just reach out to their hiring team directly?
Try to set up an informational interview with current associates that are alums of your law school. Then reach out to the hiring team telling them that you just spoke with the associate, you're very interested in the firm, and you want to know the best way to apply.
