Last associates committee meeting is coming up. Partners have asked each associate to come up with... not one... but FIVE marketing ideas. Other than reeling out “we offer competitive pay” in job postings, what are some good ones your firm does?

I’m struggling a bit. If I knew how to market well, I certainly wouldn’t be in this position.

Ooh that’s a good one!

How about we will fire toxic partners? And you can grade partners? That would be fun if it ever became reality

Imho, if you aren’t offering something that other firms dont then don’t have a hook to recruit anybody. Client initiatives and events don’t really move the needle. Think about real tangible offerings that your firm can make in a hyper competitive market.

Nonetheless, It sounds like your firm isn’t really willing to do those things. Good luck!

like

Just to add, I also meant more generally like sponsored events, client initiatives etc.

like

That’s great for the firm, not for overworked associates

like

Lol ask them to come up with better incentives cause it doesn’t sound like you are working with a lot

Sounds like you need to go different firm because you ain’t working with a lot 😂😂😂😂

Remote work. Protected vacations. Less spam emails from firm admin.

Hi all! My brother has 8 YOE post his Masters with a US bank in their rates trading division as a software developer- managing, supporting and developing software for pricing trade executions, risk management and reporting requirements for the trading desk. Any inputs on how to go about this transition, what hiring managers look for and if consulting is an option? TIA

Q’s for hiring partners and recruiters - you know that most associates quit their managing attorneys and not the firm/case. I’m in that boat. What do I say to a prospective employer about the situation of why I want to jump ship?

Very brief background - I’m a senior associate who has been on one complex commercial litigation case for over a year. Over time, the relationships between attorneys on the case have deteriorated to the point that it is affecting my productivity/work. I want out.

Additional Posts in Law

Literally nothing to do with the law, but I want to hear some theories. We live in a super normal, suburban neighborhood. Across the street is a family— husband, wife, 2 teenage daughters. Every couple nights, before COVID and during, I hear the husband either coming home late or sometimes even leaving in his car. I don’t think he’s sneaking around on his wife because if I’m noticing this, she definitely is. WHAT IS HE DOING?!

Xoxo, a nosy neighbor with nothing better to do.

If there were no practical obstacles whatsoever, what area(s) of law OTHER than your current practice area would you want to explore, and why?

I’ve been so specialized for so long I’m not even sure how to answer this question for myself. Once upon a time I was somewhat interested in tax but I’m worried that’s where fun goes to die. I kinda dig admin law, although that’s cheating a bit because I work with a federal agency.
