Congratulations! For nice clothes, you could also check out an upscale second hand store. When I was traveling to NYC regularly I would often forget something really important, if for no other reason than the weather is much warmer at home. Best tip I ever received was from a stranger at a restaurant bar who worked in the fashion industry... Check out second hand/charitable resellers in the best neighborhoods. I found a few great designer items, some with tags still attached. Once you're a few paychecks (or a nice bonus) into the job, treat yourself to something (or a few) new, knowing you won't have to put it on credit. 🍀
I second this, 2nd hand stores in great neighborhoods. If that’s not an option then thread up is great also. I recently bought abt 6 Calvin Klein work dresses for under 100$ total, they retail for a little over 100$ each and even discounted at marshals they are abt 40$ each.
ZARA is having a sale! Congrats 👏🏽. Also, in NYC lots of women do Rent The Runway for work.
Congratulations on your first lady boss role, that’s such an exciting milestone! It’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and overwhelm, especially when it comes to dressing professionally on a budget. Since you prefer affordable fashion and are transitioning to a more feminine style, I’d suggest looking for versatile, budget-friendly pieces that can mix and match easily. Stores like Uniqlo, H&M, and Zara often have polished workwear at reasonable prices! Good luck.
Congrats!! TJX/Marshalls, Zara, and secondhand stores are all good options. Start with buying a few pieces you can mix and match to create a few outfits. After you start working, watch what people wear and then augment your wardrobe over a few weeks or months. And don’t hesitate to ask HR what the dress code if you aren’t sure what to wear.
