Just got the tentative government offer_ does anyone have tips on negotiating steps when hired? I understand GS level is not negotiable.

Submitted my paystubs. Go back to job postings basic requirements. If you DO, tell them why you exceed those requirements and HR will adjust.

Hi! I’m a law student interested in working as an attorney for the DOJ or FBI. I was wondering how often do FBI attorneys go to trial? If it varies by region, what is the region that goes to trial the most? If anyone on here works for the FBI or DOJ, I would love to talk to you and ask questions because I really want to find out if this is the right fit for me! Thank you!

I was recently approached by a recruiter about a position as a litigation attorney at the DOJ. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any more specific information other than what I would be doing is “generally commercial litigation.” Can anyone share insights on what this may entail? Is it normal for a recruiter to be placing people for these government repositions?

What’re the various agencies/components’ return to office dates (if announced)? And what’re the remote work policies after that date? I hear DOJ said their individual components will decide when exactly to return between mid-March and early May and some are offering a lot of remote flexibility even after then. Curious to hear more details though, both for specific DOJ components and other agencies!

What kind of security clearance do attorney positions with domestic agencies require? I’ve been disincentivized from seeking positions with the federal government because I’m not confident about my ability to obtain a TS clearance (high short term and medium term debt, bad credit, messy bank statements, expunged misdemeanors). But I’m not trying to stay in big law if I could land federal government at half the salary. Is it worth pursuing before cleaning up my risk factors?

I have interviewed for three different positions within DOJ in the national security sector and I always seem to get passed up. I have prepped extensively and have been my true self. I have also expressed my passion for the work. I used to work at DOJ in another office as an attorney too. I’m not sure if these offices just don’t like me or what I say, but im wondering if anyone has experienced this and how did you improve or get hired in the field?

Does anyone feel like they’re selling themselves short by working in government? I graduated from a regional law school in 2018 and clerked for 2 years before moving into a GS-13 agency counsel role in DC back in October 2020. I love the work, and I love the work-life balance even more (I rarely work more than 45 hours per week, and almost never on the weekends). I’m 29, no kids, and no real responsibilities outside my student loans. (Continued below)…
