Wow, that's definitely very disappointing! It sounds like they prioritized friendship and personal relationships over their people. I'm sorry that happened, I would definitely be upset as well. Your feelings are completely valid and understandable.

Thank you so much, yeah I totally agree. I feel I can’t bring it up also because it’s their friend.
I would be feeling upset. Not only did I try to make it clear I wanted the chance to go, but people who didn’t even currently work there got to attend? I think it’s more than fair to feel that way. There may be more to it, so try not to let it bother you for the long term, but it does make sense to be slighted.

Exactly!! It’s such a frustrating situation and it has upset me quite a bit!

I’m sorry that is so frustrating. I don’t have advice, but I can commiserate. A few years ago there was a huge conference taking place in my area, and my work paid for eight people to go. I tried asking for a spot as soon as it was announced, but they filled too quickly. I soon found out my coworker who just started at the company received one of the tickets, and she bragged and bragged about it, knowing I didn’t get one but wanted to go. The day after the conference, I tried to be a good sport and ask her how it went. Then she told me, “Oh, I didn’t go. It was too far of a drive.”
I was flabbergasted. It was a 20 minute drive for me, and she lived 10 minutes closer. I 100% would have gone last minute if she would have at least told me… that coworker was never a friend.

Oh what on earth that’s so annoying!! That would irritate me so much then bragging about it.
Good for you, I think it’s best to keep colleagues at an arm’s length anyway for that reason!
I would definitely be upset by that. Especially because they allowed someone who left recently to take a spot that you could have taken. I feel you are justified in your feelings.

Thank you so much. I do think it’s such a rude move by them
If I were you, I couldn’t help but feel slighted either. People may tell you not to take it personally, but as there was no professional reason for that other person to be there, there is no other way to take it. When things like that have happened to me in the past, I found it helpful to just try to disconnect my emotions from my work a bit.

100%, I’m trying my best to not be bothered by it as it is just work, but I usually love my job so much and the people there so it’s such a shame it’s been tainted a bit
Oh no, your feelings are valid. It sounds like somebody was playing favorites. It’s frustrating but internal politics always wins doesn’t it?

Thank you so much. Absolutely, its all about who you know! Such a shame
